How To Start A Motorcycle For Beginners

By | December 24, 2021

The thrill of riding a motorcycle is something that few people are able to resist. From the wind blowing through your hair to the freedom of the open road, there’s no better way to experience the great outdoors. But for those who are just starting out on their motorcycle journey, it can be intimidating to learn how to start a motorcycle for the first time. To help out, here are some tips to get you off the starting blocks and onto the open roads.

First and foremost, it’s important to understand the key components of a motorcycle. Knowing the difference between an accelerator and a clutch will come in handy and make the process much easier. The accelerator is characteristically located at the right side of the bike while the clutch is near the left handlebar. In order to start a motorcycle, both these components must be operated in tandem.

Next, make sure that all the essential components are working correctly. Electrical items such as lights, indicators and horns should be checked and working correctly. Additionally, it's essential to check the fuel levels and that the oil level is appropriate. Don't forget to check the brakes too - they are an essential safety feature that needs to be operational.

Once you’ve ensured that everything is in place, you can begin the process of starting the motorcycle. This process may vary depending on the type of bike you have, but generally follows a similar procedure. If you have a kick-start motorcycle, you can begin by pushing the bike forward to gain momentum. Then, position your foot over the kick-start lever and use the momentum of the bike to kick the pedal down. Contrary to popular belief, the kick-start lever does not need to be pressed to the ground; rather, it should be lightly pushed so that it just starts the engine.

On the other hand, if you have an electric start motorcycle, you would simply press the ignition button. This will cause the engine to begin running and will require the use of the throttle to maintain the correct speed. The throttle should be set halfway when the engine is first started.

Once the engine has started, you can put your foot on the gear shift and slowly lift the clutch lever with your left hand. As you do this, gradually increase the throttle until you feel the bike beginning to move. At this point, you can slowly let out the clutch lever and you’ll be ready to ride.

Finally, remember to keep in mind the basics of motorcycle safety. Pay attention to your surroundings and be aware of any potential hazards. Wear a helmet, protective clothing and never ride while under the influence of drugs or alcohol. To get the most out of your riding experience, always start the bike with confidence and exercise caution when necessary.

Now that you know how to start a motorcycle, you’re ready to hit the open roads and explore what the world has to offer. Just remember to keep safety as your priority and enjoy the ride!
